Warwickshire & Northants Group

Meeting on the Last Thursday of every month

Welcome to the Warwickshire and Northants Group, we meet on the last Thursday of each month and we enjoy catching up with each other over breakfast and either listening to a knowledgeable speaker or studying a thought provoking resource series.

Meeting at 07:30 until 09:00 means the meeting does not impact too much on the working day, on the contrary we usually feel encouraged and uplifted after each meeting and at £12 we value the regular input.

As the coordinator of this group, I would personally like to invite you to sign up below to receive our monthly invitation to this group. We don’t send any adverts or other unrelated information and you can remove yourself from this at anytime.

Kind regards,

Carmelita

Speaker/Topic:  James Shand

You are warmly invited to our Warwicks & Northants CBL breakfast  LIVE ONLINE on Thursday, 29th October 2020 at 8:00 am via Zoom.

This month we welcome our very own James Shand, Co-Founder of Christian Business Leaders and Business Owner of vfdnet, as he talks on:

                                                                                   “Burnout in the Bible”

God created man to work, originally in the garden of Eden, however he also ordained rest via the Sabbath in the 10 commandments. Less well known is that the Lord pointed us towards managing our workloads, in both the Old testament and the New Testament. In today’s driven and go-getting world, James has been reflecting on what our priorities should be and what that might mean for how we approach our workload.

James commented: “We can become trapped on a hamster wheel of doing the maximum workload and then when short of work, throwing ourselves into seeking work rather than praying and seeking our next move from the Lord.”

James Shand qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989, then enjoyed a career in multi-national, private equity backed and Plc businesses. Following a traumatic redundancy in 2002, with support of Christian friends, James started his own business, now vfdnet.

Vfdnet works with business owners and managers to help map sustainable business growth. Serving clients in southern England through deal experienced Virtual Finance Directors, mentored to transform finance functions, and delivering reliable financial information. This enables us to implement incentive schemes, so motivating the top team to deliver sustainable growth. Our Strategy workshops establish target valuation, while our dummy due diligence identifies areas for improvement and informs on the best exit route, between trade sale, management buyout or employee ownership.

James co-founded Christian Business Leaders in 2006 with the vision to equip Christians business leaders grow successful businesses and lead inspirational lives that can transform the lives of others. CBL seeks to provide a safe context where Christian business people are valued, supported and equipped to apply their faith in their businesses. Now led by an active CBL Support Board, and through a growing network and regular meetings, CBL seeks to grow deep, trustworthy and accountable relationships.

James is happily married with 3 daughters and one son-in-law, lives near Oxford and worships at St David’s Moreton in Marsh.

In this frenetic pandemic world, James’ talk is most timely and will help us to focus on what is fundamental as we run our businesses.

I encourage you to sign up.

Stay tuned for more details, and please join us on Thursday, 29th October 2020 at 8:00 am, contact Katie at katie@cbl-uk.org for log in details and to notify us of your attendance!
